Lyft Cannot Get Driver's App Data Many Lyft drivers and riders speak Spanish because the Latinx community is the majority of the population in the US. However, prior to 2018, these users could only access the Lyser app. After that conversation, we at Lyft decided to do something different from other tech companies. This solution allows us to do more than the two languages available in the app. We decided to start with Spanish because, after Lish, it is the most common language required by Lyft drivers based on mobile device settings.
There are two platforms where Lyft stores content for translation: on the client (on the mobile app) and on the server. For both, a new data structure type is created, which is not just a string, but a "translatable string" that can be changed.

In this sense, it seems clear that only one word needs to be translated, 'red', which represents the color of the car. For translators, this is not difficult to understand, but in more complex examples, the context will help find the appropriate translation for the situation.

In this case, many conversion paths are dynamic, which can be stored in a database or in a configuration file on the server. This makes the solution more complicated in this case. In addition to the translation service and translation management system, there is also a configuration repository containing translations called "translation data". This data is downloaded to the requested service server through the requested service configuration. This model allows translations and transformations when the data changes dynamically. When we first tested the translation system, we realized that some of the lines in Spanish would not fit the screen space for some of the buttons because the language uses letters rather than letters to express ideas. To fix this internally, Lyft has created a way to control the language in the app's alpha configuration so you can test how the app's language displays on different bars and screens. In the following example, we can see a screenshot of the alpha version of the mobile app.
When the first translations were released, several Spanish-speaking employees were able to test the Lift application in Spanish, see what errors the translation failed during context creation, and suggest solutions. For example, one of the mistakes I made the first time I used the app in Spanish was on a flyer that said "free trips" in Spanish and "viajes libres" (literally, free) in Spanish.
